Ericsson is a global company that develops solutions and equipment for mobile networks and telephony. They offer products and services that enable the expansion, optimization, and maintenance of networks, including infrastructure for 5G.

With Avalon’s expertise in software, we have had the privilege of being part of the technological development for Ericsson’s next generation of 5G technology. Together, we have driven innovation and ensured that the new technology operates smoothly and efficiently.

To deliver the exceptionally high speeds required by 5G, higher frequencies are used, resulting in shorter range compared to previous generations. This is compensated by placing more base stations (cell towers) closer together. The result? Significantly better coverage, stability, and faster connectivity.

Future-proofing – from the outside in

To ensure that both hardware and software meet future demands, environmental testing is conducted in climate chambers, where base stations are subjected to challenging conditions such as varying temperatures and humidity. Strict requirements are placed on the functionality and performance of the products – all tests must be passed with a safe margin.

Avalon’s contribution has focused on future-proofing the product’s capacity to handle higher data traffic. Since the software does not yet support the upcoming version, simulated applications and data traffic are used to test how the products manage large amounts of data.

Through this process, statistics are collected to assess the maximum achievable data rate before data loss occurs.
