The last three years have seen an explosive development in the field of AI. By now, ChatGPT is well-known to many, and a significant number of people have also had the opportunity to try it out. ChatGPT has ushered us into a new era of innovation, flexibility, and efficiency.

Despite this, many are still unaware of the opportunities available to us beyond the well-discussed ChatGPT. Therefore, I want to share a bit of what we have explored! In this article, I will focus on what OpenAI has to offer.

OpenAI – My GPTs

Whether you are a programmer or not, there is enormous value in being able to create a chatbot in just a few minutes, which knows exactly what its purpose is every time you interact with it. This has been invaluable to me on several occasions. For some time now, OpenAI has offered the ability to create your own ChatGPT, provided you have a GPT Plus account. Currently, a GPT Plus account costs 20 dollars.

A general example could be a shopping assistant that gives tips on dishes, which products are needed for the dish, and provides you with the recipe. You only need to instruct the GPT unit once about its purpose, and it will remember it with every interaction. Such a tool can also be integrated with APIs, manage files, and answer questions about them. Note that your GPT is tied to the ChatGPT platform, and sharing is possible only with other GPT Plus users.

OpenAI – Assistants API

The possibilities with My GPTs are fantastic but can be limited. For those seeking more advanced applications within their business, there is OpenAI’s Assistant API, which is open to the public. It is not free, and its pricing is based on token usage. More information is available on OpenAI’s website. With this API, you can integrate AI features directly into your applications, websites, or apps, handle document management, initiate functions, or interpret code. Despite some limitations in the beta version, the API offers many possibilities for customization and innovation. Previous examples can also be used here but even more broadly. Now, you can integrate the shopping assistant to add and remove items in the shopping cart on your e-commerce site after recommending a dish.

In addition to what is available with the Assistants API, you can also integrate with other OpenAI products such as Dall-e, Vision, and Audio API, and surely more shortly.

OpenAI – DALL·E

Dall-e, an AI for image generation, has also attracted a lot of attention. By combining Dall-e with ChatGPT through a GPT Plus account, the uses have increased significantly. Dall-e can generate images based on your instructions, which is particularly useful for creating visual material for websites, presentations, or as placeholders.

OpenAI – Vision

Vision, which is included in GPT Plus, allows the AI to analyze images. This is particularly useful when you need feedback on visual projects. Vision can identify and suggest improvements regarding text sizes, fonts, color schemes, and layout to enhance the clarity and aesthetics of your work. An extra pair of eyes, simply put!

OpenAI – Audio API

In addition to offering possibilities for text and image generation, OpenAI also provides an Audio API. This API enables both text-to-speech (TTS) and speech-to-text (STT) functions. With speech-to-text, users can convert their speech into written text, while text-to-speech allows for converting written text into sound, which a synthesized voice reads aloud. Currently, six different voice options are offered, already of high quality. Like ChatGPT, this API supports several different languages, including Swedish. Although the Swedish voice can sometimes sound somewhat unusual, it is part of the API’s language offering. Integrating the Audio API into an application can not only improve the user experience but also make technology accessible to people with reading and writing difficulties.

This overview focuses solely on OpenAI and shows just a fraction of what is possible with today’s AI technology, and the future promises even more exciting developments.

I have talked a lot about what can be done within the company, but I also want to briefly mention how it can brighten up personal life. Go home to your child, grandchild, or similar. Take a picture of a drawing they’ve made and let the Vision API review it, tell it to write a story about the monster in the picture, create new images that reflect what the story is about. It will be magical!

I, the writer of this article, am a software developer, not a writer. You, the reader, might think that ChatGPT has written the article, and you are not entirely wrong. ChatGPT has analyzed the article and improved my material, and it is precisely this type of help that has and will change our world.
