Lars-Dolk

Lars Dolk  – Senior Mechanical Engineer

Hello Lars, tell us, who are you?

I live in a small village at the far end of Färingsö in Ekerö municipality with my wife and 4 children (who haven’t moved out yet). I have been working in product development for over 30 years, meaning from a time before the internet! Product development is something I spend a lot of time on, even in my free time. When I have a moment, I like to take a flight in my home-built airplane. In addition, I am involved as a wrestling coach for kids in our local sports club in Färingsö.

30 years of experience, impressive! How do you perceive the changes in product development with the emergence of the internet?

There has been a tremendous development from faxing 2D drawings to suppliers to emailing 3D files. It has gone from flipping through suppliers’ catalogs to find components for construction to searching online and having access to all imaginable components, datasheets, etc., at once.

We are curious, a home-built airplane?! Wow! How did that happen, and how did you come up with the idea?

I have always had an interest in aviation, and at the age of 16, I started glider flying. About 15 years ago, I came across a machine that was almost finished, a Rand KR2 model. I couldn’t resist buying the machine, and thus, I also obtained a certificate for powered flight.

What inspires and motivates you in your role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer?

I always want to find solutions that provide the right quality at the right price. What motivates me the most is finding simple solutions to complex problems.

What does it mean to be a partner consultant at Avalon?

As a partner consultant, the biggest benefit for me is that I get help finding suitable assignments, saving valuable time for me. Working as a partner consultant suits me because it gives me the freedom to develop my business and focus on what I am best at, with Avalon helping me connect with companies.

How did you start as a partner consultant at Avalon?

When I finished my previous assignment with Cake, I contacted Avalon to see if we could collaborate. I had previously worked with Mats Ludvigsson, who is a Business Manager at Avalon, so it was natural to turn to him. That’s how it happened, and now Mats is the one helping me get new assignments.

What can you tell us about your current assignment?

Right now, I am in two different assignments. Firstly, I am a consultant at Micropower, which offers complete industrial systems and products for battery and battery charging. Together with Johan Brandser, a colleague at Avalon, I am involved in developing a new family of battery chargers. Secondly, I consult a few hours a month at Sandvik Coromant, working with David Stenman to primarily sort out a liquid separator that isn’t quite doing its job. They develop the latest tools and solutions for cutting processing.
