Johan has, in addition to his consulting role, a role as an AI lead at Avalon. He shares his latest AI insights, tips on how AI can make daily life easier, and answers the big question: when will an AI-generated Christmas present become the Christmas present of the year?

Hello Johan, tell us, who are you, and what is your role at Avalon?

Hey! I’m a very tech-savvy 30-year-old living just outside Uppsala. Besides that, I love cooking, ball sports, and puns.

At Avalon, I have two roles. First, I am a consultant at SAAB, where I am responsible for subsystems in Global Eye’s computer systems. The other role I have is being the AI lead at Avalon. I explore how we can use AI within Avalon, how we can help our clients use it, and also what we can offer in the development of new AI systems.

Cool role! What is your latest AI insight?

My latest insight is about so-called AI agents. They are essentially programs assigned a purpose, which they try to achieve on their own.

An example could be asking it to increase the number of followers on an Instagram account. It will likely start by itself searching on Google for how to optimize the number of followers, analyze the responses it gets on Google, and then start implementing the actions it has found. It might create its own Instagram accounts, begin advertising the account, etc.

It’s a very powerful tool that is both inspiring and scary at the same time. The example I mentioned above was fairly innocent, but it can be used for much worse purposes. There probably needs to be regulation in the near future to address the ethical aspects.

The tools I have tested for creating AI agents are not flawless. There is still some work to be done. But it won’t be long before this is used on a broad scale. It feels like it could be the next step for generative AI.

If someone is interested and wants to learn more, they can, for example, search for AutoGPT.

If you were to give an AI agent a task to improve something in your daily life, what would it be?

Right now, it would be to find really good Christmas presents online for my loved ones. Give it each person’s preferences, that the Christmas present should be easily wrapped, what budget one has, etc. It would currently make my daily life much easier.

So, what do you think, when will an AI-generated Christmas present become the Christmas present of the year?

Haha! Well, it probably won’t take long. It should be possible to generate a board game with AI already today, so maybe we’re already there without realizing it.
